Bakery Assistant
Everyone knows the apple pie from Winkel 43. But behind every pie, there is a special story.
In our bakery, we work together with people with a disability. They help make the pies and are truly part of the team. In doing so, we find one thing very important: the bakery must be a pleasant workplace where participants can work at their own pace. The pressure to produce a certain number of pies should therefore never rest on them.
At the same time, of course, quite a few pies have to be made and baked every day. And that is what we need you for.
We are looking for reinforcement for our bakery. We are looking for someone who would like to take over production from 16:00, or – even better – someone who enjoys both.
Getting stuck in with your hands, making pies together, and seeing what you have achieved at the end of the day.
Job description
You will work in the heart of the bakery of Winkel 43 and, together with the team, ensure that everything keeps running smoothly.
From around 15:00, the participants go home, and the focus shifts more towards production:
You take over the work in the bakery where necessary;
You ensure that production for that day is completed;
You keep an overview of what still needs to be made, prepared, and baked;
You roll up your sleeves and get stuck in yourself;
You ensure that the bakery is left neat and organised;
You work according to the applicable hygiene and HACCP guidelines.
You will often work on your own or with one of our other permanent staff members to get production right at the end of the day. When one of the supervisors is away on holiday, you can supervise the participants yourself if you would like to. That is what makes this role special.
When you work with our participants, you:
Supervise participants during their work in the bakery;
Ensure peace, structure, and a pleasant working atmosphere;
Look at what someone can do independently and where some extra help is needed;
Work together on making and preparing our apple pies;
Give participants the space to join in at their own pace;
Ensure that fun, development, and participation remain more important than production pressure.
Who are you?
You enjoy being hands-on and like to roll up your sleeves;
You have patience and can communicate clearly and calmly;
You enjoy working with different people;
You understand that not everyone works at the same pace;
You can take responsibility for production and work independently when needed;
You maintain an overview, even when there is a large pile of work left;
You are flexible and do not mind working shifts from 16:00 onwards;
Experience in a bakery, kitchen, or hospitality is a plus;
Experience in supervising people with a disability is also a plus, but we find it at least as important that you are genuinely enthusiastic about this.
Why this job?
Because this is not just any production kitchen.
With us, a participant does not have to have made a minimum number of pies at the end of the day. That is not their responsibility. You help us to ensure that we can continue to offer that space, while production in the meantime simply continues to run smoothly.
This sometimes means quietly assembling a pie together and teaching someone something new. And sometimes it means turning the music up, rolling up your sleeves, and making sure a beautiful batch is ready at the end of the evening.
Both important. Both fun.
What we offer
A special workplace in the heart of Amsterdam;
A role in which social interaction and hands-on production come together;
A friendly and committed team;
A lot of independence and responsibility;
Room for your own input and ideas;
Staff discount at our establishments;
Various benefits and discounts through Alleo;
Possibility of mental support through OpenUp;
Possibility of flexible payout;
Fun staff outings;
Growth opportunities within Bartel;
Opportunity to follow various training courses for your development.
Enthusiastic?
Are you someone who likes to work with people as well as with your hands? Do you think it is wonderful to supervise participants, but can you just as easily get stuck in yourself in the bakery for an afternoon or evening?
Then we would love to meet you.
